Many Competitors Have Followed In The Footsteps Of Citizens Watch

Believe it or not, watches have been around for over 500 hundred years. In the early 1500's, the first pocket watch was created. This was the beginning of a very popular trend that continues today. Although there are many watch making companies across the world, Citizen mens watches have a unique place in this industry.

Prior to the company name coming to pass, their roots began in 1918. It took a little over a decade before the watch company was established in 1930. The name was chosen by the mayor of Tokyo; setting a goal that every citizen should have an opportunity to own a high quality timepiece.

Being one of the first of a handful of watch companies, the goal was to make wrist watches available to the masses. Within a few years of incorporation, the company was able to build its first factory. The company now employs over 3,000 people worldwide and exports its products around the globe.

Years later (1956), they were the first Japanese company (after World War II) to create a 'shock resistant watch'.  This was a landmark breakthrough for the industry as it opened the door to a whole new level of technology. Just one development changed the way watches were used and how they were worn. Three years later, they partook in another first with a water resistant watch.

Just prior to 1960 the company began to export to China. Additionally, at the beginning of the new decade, they created a relationship with a U. S. watch company exporting to the United States. Growing to worldwide recognition, the company produced the world's first diver's watch, a watch that actually had the ability to electronically detect depth.

As the worldwide company moved forward, watches became a major fashion statement. Watches today sell for thousands of dollars, allowing the buyer to literally wear a work of art. Over the last 90 years, they have kept setting the standard for distinction and advancement. Dedicated artists and creators have produced the thinnest and most widely known liquid crystal display timepiece. Following right behind the LCD technology came a light powered watch that eliminated the need for a battery or winding.

Not forgetting the world around us, the company led the industry in technology and environmental awareness. It was the first corporation to receive the "Eco Mark" approval for its advanced light powered watches. The Eco Mark symbol represents a voluntary effort by a company to protect the earth by creating products (watches) that reduce waste and improve the environment.

When it comes to wrist wear, people frequently have different tastes. Types, size and style are all factors considered before purchasing a watch. For most people, watches are an extension of one's personality. Some folks may be looking for an everyday work men's fashion watches, while some are seeking a work of art costing thousand of dollars. Whatever you have in mind, you will more then likely find what you're looking for with Citizen watch.
