Founded in 1875 by a Romanian immigrant, Joseph Bulova, the Bulova Watch Company has risen to become an icon of American ingenuity and craftsmanship. Bulova watches have evolved from the traditional pocket watch of the early 20th century, to the first self-winding wristwatch of the 20th century. It was awarded to Charles Lindbergh when he soloed across the Atlantic and it has even landed on the moon! Wherever American history was being made, you could find a Bulova mens watches!
No one can dispute the excellent reputation of the Bulova Watch Company and the brand recognition of their name. Perfecting the art of time keeping by introducing dramatic new watch works, they simply redefined the art of watch making. Today Bulova watches can be found in stores and bazaars around the world.
With 130 years of making fine timekeeping instruments, the craftsmen at Bulova have taken their craft to a new level. They have melded their engineering innovations with cultural changes to create a slate of options for anyone's budget, lifestyle or taste. Over the last century, the Bulova Watch company has moved from simple timekeeping pieces used in the fox holes of World War I to exquisitely detailed pieces of jeweled art.
One line in the portfolio is the Accutron. Designed with a contemporary feel and sophisticated styling, the Accutron was developed in the 60's and has the ability to maintain accuracy within 2 seconds per day. The first watch to use electronics to keep time, it is the most amazing enhancement in timekeeping history since the wristwatch. This watch had no springs to break and it is operated with electronic batteries. President Lyndon Johnson was so enamored with this watch, that he declared it to be a Gift of State and presented it to visiting dignitaries.
Not only was President Johnson impressed with this new precision timekeeping piece, but General Omar Bradley was presented with one. Railroad personnel wore the Accutron models for many years as they were the only 'certified' timekeeping instruments allowed. But most impressive was the fact the Accutron mechanisms were used in 46 space mission and was the only clock allowed on Air Force One.
In 1969 the Accutron watch movements were part of the Apollo 11 moon landing. It was this equipment that was left behind in the Sea of Tranquility on the moon that transmitted data back to earth for many years. These transmissions provided vital data to our scientists back on Earth.
In 1968, a public clock that would run on orbiting satellite signals was installed in Mexico. The Mexican President installed this magnificent time piece on the roof of the Torre Latino Americana, a tall Mexican office building. The clock continued to demonstrate its outstanding accuracy.
The years between 1875 and 1975 were not only years of men's watch, but also years of war and peace, of terrible depression and great uncertainty. Those years presented us with new inventions that allowed man to fly and then to fly into space. Inventions that allowed us to listen to music and speeches from around the world and then to see these speeches, and singers and entertainment. But through the upheaval and new discoveries the one thing we could always count on was the reliability of the Bulova mens watches.
